Suizen or “Blowing Zen” playing the shakuhachi is one way to express realization in the Zen tradition. The shakuhachi is the only melodic instrument found in Zen. Suizen pieces are traditionally played as a personal spiritual practice. The program of pieces is drawn from the traditional Zen repertoire. This event is an opportunity to join in and feel the meditative ambience of the sound of the shakuhachi. We look forward to you joining us for this special event.

Seiso in the Jizo Garden – by Kenzan Seidenberg (June 2026)
Meet Seiso Chugai, Roshi
A practitioner of suizen since 1993, Seiso has developed his craft by studying with Anerican and Japanese masters both in America and Japan. Over time he has developed a deep spiritual connection to the shakuhachi.
Seiso honors the traditional shakuhachi lineage which is centered on conscious breath and the resonant qualities of bamboo flute, building a path between silence and sound for everyone present.
Seiso is available suizen for your weddings, memorials, and other meaningful events. To schedule: chugai108@gmail.com
